bem1492
Hey, y'all! My name is Blayne, and I live just outside of Stillwater, OK. By day, I am a Computer Science professor at Oklahoma State University. In my "spare" time, I am an aspiring (expiring?) musician and a woodworker. Most of my woodworking projects have been musical instruments. I've built a 15/14 hammered dulcimer (which I play), a mountain dulcimer, more than a dozen pickin' sticks (kind of a backpack mtn dulcimer), and a ukulele (which I play) from a kit. My next instrument build goals are ukuleles (from scratch) and bowed psalteries. We live on the edge of some brushy property, and a few years ago a wildfire came through and destroyed a shed on the edge of our property. The insurance settlement on the shed became the basis of my own, dedicated workshop building. The workshop is 14' x 24' inside and also has a porch. I've got it pretty crowded with tools and work surfaces, but many of the big tools are on wheels so I can keep them out of the way when I'm not using them. I've been woodworking a few years, and most of what I know I've learned from reading magazine articles and watching Norm on TV. I just recently discovered The Wood Whisperer, Matt's Basement Workshop, and Wood Talk Online. I also joined the Wood Whisperer Guild. I'm a visual learner, and the videos are awesome! I'm looking forward to the advice and fellowship that I know will come from this forum!
Vic
Blayne, do you have any footage of making the instruments? That would be very cool..also, welcome! Hey, y'all! No, I never took any footage. However, that may be a great idea for future builds. Thanks, Vic!
