DrewG
Hi all, A couple of days ago I completed a bread board for my wife for Thanksgiving. This is the first project that I really wanted to share with the WTO community. (The dimensions are 19" x 6-1/2" x 1/2".) I got the idea from a curved inlay tutorial David Picciuto published . David warned to practice the process of routing/cutting/trimming the gap, and doing the glue-up; but I just rushed headlong into it. Amazingly, everything came out perfectly! The main wood is Brazilian lacewood. The laminate strips are alternating maple and wenge that I cut by hand... OK, I cut them by hand using my table saw. I routed the body and curve lines using templates that I cut on the bandsaw and shaped on the disc sander. I've never worked with lacewood before, but it was really interesting. It was it bit prone to splintering, but not overly hard. Whenever I cut or routed it, though, the finish already looked like it had been card scraped. The glue-up was a bit of a bear, but using notched cauls, I was able to keep the panels aligned. I knocked down the laminate edges using my block plane, did some light passes on the thickness planer, then sanded it up to 220 grit. I finished it with 3 coats of 100% GF Salad Bowl Finish, and finally burnished it with a cotton cloth. My wife loves it, and can't wait to use it tomorrow. That's the most important thing. Happy Thanksgiving to all our US friends; and best wishes for a happy and safe holiday season to all! Kind regards, Drew

DrewG
Thanks guys. I appreciate the compliments. I hope y'all had a great holiday. @Kev, I saw your inlayed boards. I really like the book matched arc designs. Very nice work! @Dave, good luck with your project. One bit of David's advice I would suggest to follow, though, is to use a glue with a longer open time. I used Titebond 2 and it was okay because the glue-up came together quickly enough. Next time I will use Titebond 3 to give me a bit more leisurely pace.
