Pbmaster11
I would like to make some 1/8" or 1/4" edge banding for a project I am making. I do not have a band saw and was wondering if it is recommended to do these cuts on a table saw. Any tips, tricks, or no no's?
Beechwood Chip
I had a similar question recently. You should look at this thread. I have pictures of my setup here.
Pete Bennett
I would like to make some 1/8" or 1/4" edge banding for a project I am making. I do not have a band saw and was wondering if it is recommended to do these cuts on a table saw. Any tips, tricks, or no no's? I have a massive and very ancient table saw with a 20" TCT Blade and using a set up pretty similar to Beechwood's I've often gone down to 1/8" with no trouble at all. I do however, prefer to use my bandsaw now that I have one.
Beechwood Chip
My 1.75 HP with a 10" 24 tooth rip blade had no problem with 2.5" poplar in a single pass. I didn't try any other woods, but I expect that I could handle any wood, making multiple passes if necessary. If you are edge banding I assume you'll be cutting 1" or less, which you should be able to do in a single pass in any wood on almost any saw. Someone (maybe Paul-Marcel?) recommended clamping the cut pieces face to face with the cut faces outside, to reduce curling. I saw a little curling on one of my 3/32" pieces, so this seems like a useful tip when cutting thin pieces.
