Dull down shellac finish

I've been using a shellac finish. Sand to 220 > coat > 220 > coat > steel wool > coat and sometimes a 4th coat. Brushed on with disposable natural brush.

Anyway to get a more matte finish. Could I steel wool it without doing another coat?

Once fully cured, shellac is pretty hard, although not as durable as poly. Personally, I don't care for the "scratchiness" left behind with steel wool. It never seems to be even. However, I've seen several folks mention using 400+ grit wet/dry paper on a random orbit sander, lubricated with a little mineral oil & mineral spirits.
