rbs
I was assembling a shop cabinet yesterday and where I had pocket holes drilled and installed the tip of the screw was coming thru the plywood. I adjusted the stop collar so as to shorten up the depth of drilling but it didn't seem to matter. I am using 1-1/4" screws. I am thinking I need shorter screws for those 90 deg plywood joints. Suggestions? Thanks!
Minnesota Steve
1-1/4" screws is what I've used when doing 3/4" to 3/4" joint. There's a chart in the Kreg manual(and I think on the back of every box of screws) that shows this.
BonPacific
Make sure your jig is set to the correct distance for 3/4" boards. If you have the mini or another clamp-on jig, there are grey hooks on the side with markings for distance. Not sure how this is done on the bench-top models. CandorLush
Plywood often comes in 1/32" less than the actual number it says so 23/32" for "3/4 inch" and 15/32" for "1/2 inch" That would be my first guess as to the culprit

Both have to be set correctly to get the holes drilled right. If the jig is adjusted wrong, the screw is probably being put in too shallow and poking out the far side. The 2 fixes I have found is don't screw it down all the way, or use glue and 1" screws.
rbs
ok thanks for all the responses. I will check tonight on what the K5 jig is on for a setting. I am thinking I am just drilling too far in with the stepped drill bit. Glad I am building a shop cabinet and not my kitchen cabinets. I will check, thanks again! rbs
I checked the setting on the jig and it was set at 3/4" and also checked the stop collar again and it was set for 3/4", actually it wasn't even touching it. So I changed the stop collar to the 1" setting and then it didn't pop thru. All good now. Thanks for your help!
