KRAM121881 Posted January 27, 2011 Report Share Posted January 27, 2011 SO I GOT TASKED VERY, VERY SHORT NOTICE TO BUILD BOX FOR THE ASHES OF MY GRANDFATHER INLAW. SO I BUILT A NICE OAK BOX PUT ONE COAT OF SANDER SEALER ON IT THEN A LIGHT SAND AND PUT A COAT OF MINWAX FAST DRYING POLYURETHANE. I HAVE WORKED WITH THIS FAST DRY POLY SEVERAL TIMES WITH THIS NEVER HAPPENING BUT AFTER 12 HR DRY TIME THE SURFACE IS STILL VERY TACKY. AceHoleInOne Posted January 27, 2011 Report Share Posted January 27, 2011 Oil based finishes will take longer to dry in cold temps, 60 and above is preferred. Can you move the piece to a warm area? KRAM121881 Posted January 28, 2011 Author Report Share Posted January 28, 2011 First I didn't mix the sander sealer and poly togeather. I put a coat of sander sealer on and let it dry for 4hr then i put a coat of poly on. After chating with some people in the chatroom I turned the shop temp up to 70 and moved the box near one of the heat vents and put a fan on it now and it seams to be drying much bettter. I guess I was just a little jumpy with all that is going on and with the short notice and all. I would like to thank you all for your input.
