When I quit my job of 12 years I told absolutely nobody other than my immediate supervisor and HR who, at my request, kept it to themselves. I took personal effects home over the week prior but only those inside my desk which wouldn't be noticed. At 4:00 on my last day there I put the personal stuff on my desk into a box, said "Bye guys" and walked out leaving behind a lot of blank stares and dumbfounded looks. It was oddly satisfying!
