LadyB
My husband is the builder in our family, and while I've tried my hand at that, I'm pretty much a laborer / cheerleader when it comes to building. I have found that I really enjoy finishing, however, but my learning is mostly trial and error. I think I've done enough projects that I've decided to really put effort in to making the finish as good as it can be. Right now I'm a moderate DIYer, but I want to go to the next level. We have hopes of building / finishing our kitchen cabinets, bedroom and office furniture, etc. The styles are not terribly ornate -- think shaker or mission style. What resources would you recommend for finishing furniture / cabinets? Right now I'm staining and wiping a poly finish on furniture. I plan on spraying our kitchen cabinets when we get that far . . . but it is probably a year away, right now we are replacing MDF with real wood products. Solid interior doors are waiting stain and poly in the workshop right now.
Mick S
Welcome! This is the bible on wood finishing - https://www.amazon.com/Understanding-Wood-Finishing-Comprehensive-Troubleshooting/dp/1565235665/ref=sr_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=finishing+furniture&qid=1611329785&sr=8-12
Mark J
I agree with Mick, start with Flexner and maybe end there, too. I don't believe he has much to say about spraying, but when you get to it the folks here have a wealth of spraying experience.
Chet
Spray Finish Made Simple by Jeff Jewitt Is a good book and DVD on spray finishing. I suggest watching the DVD first and then read the book.
