Welby
New to woodworking and finishing. I am using a HWO on a Cherry Bookcase. Has any one tried the N3 Nano Treatment that Cam from Blacktail Studio is selling? Looking for a little more protection.
wtnhighlander
No personal experience. Sales literature indicates it is an attempt to replicate the 'ceramic coating' products used in the automotive industry. Probably enhances resistance to light scratching, maybe some UV filtration. SDS available on the web site, the product is pretty nasty. If you decide to use it, please follow the recommended precautions. Honestly, I can't see anything about it worth the $$$ and the apparent health risk, for application on a 'daily use' piece of furniture. Maybe on a museum / gallery piece, where appearance is king and handling is rare, it makes more sense. Last comment - applying a 'ceramic coating' over a hard wax oil finish seems a bit like the hard shell of a chocolate-dipped ice cream cone. Looks great until you touch it, but the gooey middle offers no support, so it cracks under pressure. All that said, I'll repeat my disclaimer. I have never used this product. Thanks for the insight and wise counsel. The $$$ and health issues stress my biggest concerns On 8/11/2023 at 6:47 AM, wtnhighlander said: No personal experience. Chestnut
Honestly I don't see the point in trying to reinvent the wheel. Polyurethane of the wipe on type is quite durable, inexpensive, and easy to apply. It has environment and health concerns but probably less than these nano coatings.
