The mitered top was fun. The saw had to be perfect to get the tight fit. I actually did the bottom the same way, but that's not usually seen. Regarding the miter reinforcement, I am guessing you're talking about the main box miters? If that is the case, it is a spline. I chose to leave it exposed...it added some interest to me.
