Rubbery stuff on new WWII saw blade

I just got a new Forrest WWII blade, plucked off the rubbery stuff...I use WD40 to clean off the residue left underneath.  Is there a better solvent to clean blades?  I've always used the WD but I wanna take care of this blade better than I have my cheapos in the past.  Or maybe it doesn't matter?

It pulls right off. Then I like to wipe the blade with a cloth because sometimes there is an oily/waxy residue under it and since I have to handle the blade when I install it. I don't like that residue all over my hands. It's gone after the first cut.
