Mahogany Bookcase

This is my first project that I designed from the ground up. The case and shelves are 3/4 "Genuine" Mahogany ply while the face frame and shelf edging is African Mahogany. The entire project was dyed using Potassium Dichromate in order to get a color match between the two Mahogany species. The entire unit was constructed with Dominoes; this includes the assembly of the face frame and applying it to the case. The top coat is 3 applications of General Finishes Arm-R-Seal Semi Gloss.

It was my first time making my own moldings which turned out to be one of the bigger challenges. I think mostly due to the smaller nature of the parts.

I also designed the edging for the shelves to supply greater resistance to sagging, at least I hope it will....

The project was designed and rendered in Google SketchUp and I will gladly supply the model if anyone should desire.
