Post finish changes in a pen

What kind of wood is that? Figured maple?

What finish did you apply?

How long did you wait between coats.

Looks like something is going on in the endgrain, looks thinner at the top of the pen. Not up on my penturning? Is adhesive used to attach the metal tube to the wood? Adhesive reaction?

The wood is African Olivewood.

The Finish is thin CA, applied with accelerator.  8-10 coats, micromeshed up to 12k, and then buffed with satin and gloss CA polish.

Time between coats ranges from 60-90 seconds up to a few minutes.

>>I've had this happen, typically it's the fine sanding dust of the metal bushings that get shoved into the end grain that reacts to the finish.<<

I am guessin this is it.  Any recomended preventative measures?
