Firehawk
I am making a plant stand where the shelves will have multiple slats glued and screwed on rails to form the shelves. I would like to stain the slats before assembly. My question is, does staining before glue up significantly reduce the bonding strength of the glue?
drzaius
Yes. Mask the glue contact surfaces.
Guest
definitely mask the glue surface. also consider applying at least one coat of your top coat before gluing and assembly. it will keep your stain from getting damaged and make it easier to wipe away squeeze out.
