t4t001n3
My sister in law asked if I could design a table for her narrow hall. So I took the challenge (and learned sketchup at the same time). I got the inspiration from an article by Darryl Pearth in Popular Woodworking and other G&G pictures I found on the web. I built the table from Mahogany with Ebony and African Blackwood plugs and splines. I finish the table with Red Mahogany Danish Oil and a top coat of satin polyurethane. Then I rubbed the finish with dark wax. 41 1/2" width x 12" depth x 29" height It took me about 1.5 months (Weekends and evenings) to complete it. Vic
Beautiful!! I'm a big fan of G&G, anyway and you did a really nice job of paying respect to their work.
PaulMarcel
Wow. Everything about it, wow. I love QS mahogany (did you use Sapelé?). Love that you took the drawer front stock out of the apron for a perfect grain match. That made a huge difference. Oh, and every other detail. Bobby Slack
Great job and I like how you used the same board for the drawer front and apron. Great attention to detail.

How did you do the drawer pull? Is it bowed? Did you have to do all by hand or cut a bow on the band saw then create the steps?
t4t001n3
@Chris F I don't remember all the details of the shaping of the drawer pull. I improvised it in the shop. Here is what I remember: I first laid out the step, then I cut the recesses for the fingers on the router table with a corebox bit. I roughed the shape on the band saw and belt sander. The rest was all by hand, used a 5 sweep gouge for the shape of the steps, then I refined the drawer pull using chisels, rasps, files and sand paper. It took me almost a day to be satisfied with the result. Thanks for all the comments. Martin

Jerry_in_SD
Very nice, Having taken G&G courses from both Darrel Peart and William Ng, you did a fantastic job. Could not tell if you used the leg indent detail. What was your finish schedule? Did you stain / dye this?
t4t001n3
@SDwoodworker Thanks, your comment is very appreciated. I didn't use the leg indent on the legs. Unfortunatly I discovered this detail after the table was completed. Maybe for the next table. I used Watco Red mahogany danish oil to add color to the piece. ChetlovesMer
I know that in the Critique room we are suppose to offer some constructive criticism. But I got nothing here. I like it a lot. I wasn't going to post until I found something to offer, but all I can say is that it turned out awesome. I'm very impressed! ChetlovesMer
I got the inspiration from an article by Darryl Pearth in Popular Woodworking and other G&G pictures I found on the web. Can you tell me from which issue the article came? I'd like to read it. I'm trying to design a couple of G&G bedside tables, and looking for as much inspiration as I can get.
