wdwerker
Only doubting the validity of the rosewood, so many things are called rosewood, so few are actually rosewood.. But some very nice looking boards !
Bill Tarbell
wow, those look great. I always enjoy looking at the exotics at rockler, but i just can't talk myself into buying any at the high retail prices. It's a bummer than the local hick sawmills don't carry exotics at 1/3 the price like they do local domestics
Eric.
Yeah, rosewood...not so sure. Looks a lot like air-dried walnut to me. You got ripped! Nah, those will be nice boxes. Don't buy lumber from Woodcraft.
wdwerker
Hey Vinny, have you ever gone by Carltons Rare Woods on Hemphill near the waterworks in Atlanta ? Talk to Richard, he's the current owner. More exotic's than you or I have ever heard of. Fair prices and an education if you ask the right questions . No bar codes or retail anything in sight ! wouldwurker
They're also called something else, right? On the west side of town?
wouldwurker
No wait, I'm thinking of hardwoods inc, in Mableton. I spent a paycheck on hard maple and walnut there a few months ago.
Bill Tarbell
build anything fun out of the maple & walnut?
wdwerker
Nope, right behind GA Tech. The other place on the west side is Atlanta Wood Products , AWP, or Hardwoods INC. Much more of a commercial, retail sort of place. Bigger quanties but no where near the selection of exotic's. Richard worked for Carleton for years and basically inherited the business. The man knows his stuff, he learned from a master the hard way, he earned it !

tcarswell
That's awesome. Wish I had a woodcraft or any woodworking store for that matter nearby. I gotta amazon or order everything that home depot and Lowes don't have. We have an excellent lumberyard though.
