Jim DaddyO
I bought this at the local Ciderfest a couple of weeks ago and wanted to give it a bit of going over. It was in pretty good shape and I think it will come in handy. I added in a bit of a shop update too.
ColinF
Really enjoyed that Jim. You said something about getting diamond stones, check out Amazon first, I took the Paul sellers route and use diamond stones and a strop, I think I paid $65 for a duosharp and $37 for a 4 sided strop with honing compounds, works great! I've been scouring eBay trying to get a 78, I haven't had any luck yet, but man they look handy!

Tom King
078 or 778? I have one I bought new, and it gets used a fair amount.
Jim DaddyO
The full name is: Record No 078 Duplex Rabbet & Filletster Plane. Manufactured between 1932 to 1980. I don't think this one is particularly old, or used much.
Tom King
Interesting. I thought the 078 was a Stanley and Record was 778. I probably bought my 778 new in the '70s. http://www.record-planes.com/record-no-778-duplex-rabbet-filletster-plane/Here's the 078. I've never noticed one before. http://www.record-planes.com/record-no-078-duplex-rabbet-filletster-plane/ Edited October 19, 2015 by Tom King
