Pbmaster11
I have an older 6" craftsman jointer and when I surface plane/joint I get "snipe" (that's what it is called right?) at the end... What causes this? Technique? Bad setup? What do I have to do to stop this from happening?
dlamulle
It's my experience if the knives of your jointer are set too high above the outfeed table you will have snipe. When I say too high I mean .005 higher. Some manuals say set the knives dead even with the outfeed table and some suggest .001 to .002 higher. My Powermatic has a helical cutter and is pretty darn difficult to get dead on. I have mine set a tad high (.002) and on a board up to 4' long i'm dead flat. I'm not saying you can't also get snipe with bad technique especially if you don't keep pressure on your outfeed table side with the material. Marc has an awesome video on setting your jointer knives here give it a look see. Hope this helped some. Dave

Pbmaster11
i tuned the jointer up and made sure all the blades were at the correct height (as close as possible) and the snipe was eliminated..
