Sully
I was given an old 60"x60" woodworking table about 5 years ago. It is the type that many of us used when we were in Jr. High/High School wood shop class. It's a beautiful maple table top about 4 inches thick and has 4 vises. My dilemma: I checked out the flatness of the top and found it had a pronounced crown, about 1/4". I proceeded to use a couple of methods to flatten it; Belt Sander and hand planning. So far it's a very slow go. I would continue planing, but had shoulder surgery, which makes me sore for days. Belt sanding "seems" to work, but it slow. I've reduced it a bit, but wondering if there is a better way. Does anyone have suggestions? The top weighs about 250lbs. I've thought about calling around to large shops to see if any of their commercial sanders/planers could do the trick. Are there any commercial sanders that big? Any help is appreciated.
