Quick question about the Roubo

I've got the lumber to make my Roubo (and will be doing a journal of the process), but might need to wait a little bit before I can afford the BenchCrafted hardware.  I'm about $50 short on being able to afford it.  For anyone who has built it, how far along could I get in the build before having the hardware is absolutely necessary?

Like Daniel said ,  I built the whole thing and used it like that for a while before installing the hardware.  if I was in your shoes and ready to build,  I'd do it.  it's a great bench even with hold fasts and dogs.

Great news to hear, thanks!  Brendon, how was the process of putting the hardware in after the bench was built different from what the videos in the Guild project show?  I know that the leg vise is already a good bit different because it will be the crisscross glide rather than the old hokey one with the pin and roller guide.  What do you need to do to get the tail vise on after the bench has already been built without it?  Did you opt for the end cap version that would allow you to remove it, then attach it that way?  I'm just tying to wrap my head around the process.

The end vise install is the same now as it was in the guild build so I milled the channel for it and was ready when it arrived.  I do have an end cap but it's glued in.  the install went very easy.

Marc supplements the original series with a video of installing the glide and xx hardware.  I made the holes and trough for the xx and it also went fine.

it will take a bit to get to the leg vise portion of the build so that one should not be an issue the tail vise end cap install I would want the hardware for. Having said that you can certainly get the slabs going that actually took me a few weeks on my build. Share pics as you go these builds never get old :)

Those were nice to supplement and have a physical copy but I found the bc instructions hard to read and follow.

I agree completely..  With the abundance of YT videos and the instructions out there, it can all be done ahead of time tho.
