Popular Post mtairymd
My son (16 at the time) designed and built this shelf to match a desk design which he and I built earlier (shown in last pic). This is a simple design, easy to make and is relatively low cost (under $50). As with the desk, the design is very beefy and should hold up to any abuse you would like to throw at it. Also, these pictures are obviously not from his room. CAD Files (his design & modeling) As you can see, it's pretty straight forward. A lot of simple cuts - rinse and repeat. Ready to start making pillars Pre-stained the parts before assembly - another coat was added at the end. I was pretty happy with how it turned out. It was also fun watching him come up with the design without my input. This is the desk he and I originally built for his room. Yep, it's similar to the Ana White version - pocket holes and all :(. Thanks for viewing.

Yep, it was exactly what he was looking for and it matched our skill level at the time :).

MisterDrow
Very nice! Especially cool that he designed something on his own and you guys made it happen. My daughter (she's almost 10) asked for tools for Christmas so she could build things with me in the garage. My wife and I got her a small home-repair type toolkit and she LOVES it. She and I are working out the details of a small writing desk for her room since she loves to write stories.

That's awesome that you are working with your daughter. My daughter (now 16) doesn't have the slightest interest in woodworking. I did get her to hand paint a few of my projects which was nice.
