Tpt life
Hand tools or power tools? Google winding sticks for identifying. Approaches for various power and hand tools vary by tool.
woodbutcher
Or find a flat surface and see where the board rocks. The points at which the board pivots on are the high points. Flip the board and knock those down with whatever tool you have to do so; I use a hand plane. Keep checking your progress by flipping the board over and checking the face you are removing the material from against your flat surface. Use a straight edge to make sure you arent introducing any cup or bow in the board. The flatter your reference surface is, the easier it is to identify twist, cup and bow in boards will be. wtnhighlander
Winding sticks are good for spotting twist. And easy to make. Sighting along the edge and face of the board can spot a bow or cup. If you have trouble keeping tabs on the high spots of the bow or cup when you move your eye away from it, try stretching a line taut from corner to corner of the board. Use something with little or no stretch, music wire being nearly ideal. Space the line equally above the board at both ends, as with short sections of equal diameter dowel stock.
