Velvet57
Hello All! I finally removed paint from a table that I painted, and I'm not sure how to protect it. I don't want a shiny finish, I just want to protect it. What product can I use for a matte finish for protection? Thanks in advance!
wdwerker
There are plenty of finishes that come in satin or dull sheens. Flattening agents will settle to the bottom of the can and will need to be stirred well to get them evenly mixed into the entire can before using. Lacquers and some waterbourne finishes are available in dull sheen but won't probably be stocked at the local home center. Some companies may call it flat. Another approach is to rub out the finish with an abrasive pad.
gee-dub
If this is a one-time-deal I would even consider a quality rattle can for something that small. Behlans comes in different gloss levels. Poly may be more appropriate depending on use.
wtnhighlander
I lean toward using gloss finishes, and rubbing back the sheen with abrasives, but it requires a good deal of patience and effort to look right. Satin finishes will be much quicker, just keep the well-mixed, as mentioned above.
Velvet57
Well, Gee-dub, it never even occurred to me to use a spray, that is a very good idea! It can be used on many projects. I'm learning so much on this forum! Thanks to all!
