Popular Post BonPacific
This lamp came a long way from start to finish. The wood itself was purchased for a sofa table that I never ended up finishing, with the leg and stretcher stock languishing for years on my shelf before I figured out something to do with it. I cut the main parts for this just over a year ago, as one of the last things I did in my old shop before we moved. Amazingly they stayed flat and straight. I can't remember the exact inspiration, probably something I saw on the net, filtered through watching my wife play Deus Ex. There were no plans beyond knowing I wanted a simple geometric lamp that took advantage of strip lighting. I just started playing with shapes and angles on the bench until I had something I liked. The frame has a full length dado/channel for the lighting strip and the top and bottom rails are connected with haunched tenons. Finish is a simple semi-gloss rattlecan lacquer.
gee-dub
Very cool. I like the concept and the looks. Modern without looking like the Jetson's. The combo of the soft light and the natural wood do the trick.
wtnhighlander
Very slick! Is there some sort of diffuser over the LED strip?

Is there some sort of diffuser over the LED strip? I used a kind of strip that is more like a single long filament than the ones with individually visible chips, which has some kind of mild defuser built in. It looks like a single bead of yellow silicone when off. They advertise something like 500 diodes per meter, but who knows the accuracy of these things. It's a bit bright when looked at edge-on, but from most angles the channel shields you from glare. I think it was this. 1
Chestnut
That is a great design. It's different and I really like it.
