roughsawn
I'm getting ready to upgrade my jointer. My two choices are: G0858-Grizzly 8"X76" with Parallelogram bed...or G0856-Grizzly 9"X72" with Dovetailed Ways...both models with spiral cutterhead. My question is, would you guys choose dovetailed ways, or parallelogram bed...and why? I have watched several videos, so I understand the set up procedures for both. In general use, will the jointer with dovetailed ways produce the same results as the parallelogram model? And be just as easy to maintain? Any thoughts or advice are greatly appreciated. Chet
I have dovetail ways on my 8 inch Powermatic Jointer that is about 4 years old and everything is still working fine. I haven't had to re-adjust or tune up anything. But having said that, from what I understand the Parallelogram beds are easier to tune up if and when the time comes and also they are easier to make operational adjustments with. Chestnut
I went with parallelogram just because i wanted to buy once and be done. If budget is tight dovetail ways can work great. There are a lot of dovetail way jointers putting out good work. I've never had to calibrate mine.
