Ronn W
I need a narrower blade for my Lie Nielson #71 router plane. The blade that it came with is 3/8" wide. I would like a blade that is about 1/4" wide. LN sells 3/32" and 1/ 8" blades( $75) but they require and adpater$40 to use in the #71 plane. Is there any reason that I can't buy another 3/8" blade ($50) and grind it to the width that I want? Thanks,
Chet
I don't know if these will work in your router plane but Lee Valley has several sizes available. Router Plane Blades
Immortan D
You will probably have to harden and temper the blade after grinding it. I found this link about O1 tool steel and seems like that steel "is somewhat prone to quench cracking, especially if there are significant changes in section thickness and sharp internal corners." Chestnut
Wow i thought that was a typo on the price at first.... the LV blades are way cheap by comparison. It's probably more cost effective at this point to sell the LN router plane and buy the LV one with the set of blades. 16 hours ago, Chet said: I don't know if these will work in your router plane but Lee Valley has several sizes available. Router Plane Blades They will not work. The shank for the LV blade is 45 degrees where the LN is 90 degrees. Hard to explain but if you look at a picture of both it'll make sense.
