offseid Posted August 14, 2010 Report Share Posted August 14, 2010 Hey all, some of you know me, but for those that don't, here's my intro! I'm Eric. Living right now in Malaysia on the island of Borneo. Sounds pretty exotic huh? Yeah, I guess it is. I live near the state capital (Kota Kinabalu) where they have Starbucks, Pizza Hut and McDonald's (which delivers), but if I drive about 30 minutes I'm practically in the middle of nowhere. Great snorkeling and scuba diving just a 15-minute drive (and 15-minute boat ride) away, so I guess I can't complain! I started woodworking in about 2004 because I wanted to have some sort of activity that didn't involve the computer. Mission accomplished...sort of. What with Lumberjocks, my blog and now this site, not to mention the dozen or so blogs I follow in my feed reader, it seems that my woodworking can't really be divorced from the computer! So anyway, I first started out not knowing jack squat about woodworking. I have some funny stories to tell...another time. But let's just say that when I headed back to the States in 2006, a few things led me into the world of the neanderthal, and when I returned to Malaysia in 2007 I was a different woodworker. Now I'm hand-tools-only, with an electric fan being the only thing plugged in in my shop. I'm just starting to build my bench after years of thinking about it, so feel free to follow along on my blog! If it's not updated, I'm just not getting shop time, so be patient. Like me.
