Debbi
I have an antique ships wheel and it's very dull and dry. I would like to refurbish it without losing any of its charm.
JohnG
If you are simply wanting a shine but no other changes, you can gently clean it and then apply a paste wax. Or something like Howards Feed n Wax.
wtnhighlander
Welcome, @Debbi! I think @JohnG's advice is sound. How about a photo of the wheel? We are a bunch of very visual creatures, and enjoy seeing all the projects in the works.
Chestnut
Soft abrasives like white scotch brite pads can help remove unwanted detritus but aren't abrasive enough to remove wood. Using them with waxes or hard wax finishes can have a "polishing" effect.
