Popular Post Coop Posted March 26, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted March 26, 2024 Last year I planted some butterfly weed to attract monarch butterflies. I was able to watch several butterflies lay their eggs which hatched into caterpillars which transformed into a pupa and then into butterflies around my house. This year, I took it a step further. I overwintered two of the plants in their pots in the garage and set them out a few weeks ago. A few days later, I found 1 plant covered in caterpillars. The caterpillars will eat all of the leaves of the host plant and then find a place to hang themselves for the pupa stage. I placed the second plant next to the first and after completely eating the leaves of the first, they transferred to the second one. After they had stripped both plants of their leaves, I collected the caterpillars and placed them into a plastic bin and covered it with screened frame. Where they began their upward crawl to the top and formed their pupa selves. That was ten days ago. Today, I find that I twins with more to come. I set the frame outside in the sun and out of the wind for them to stretch their wings and fly off to enjoy their short lived life’s. 10 Quote
