oldman_pottering Posted December 30, 2024 Report Posted December 30, 2024 I have a 6" Toolmac Jointer Model : 93-533029 which I bought 2nd hand, I'm new to using one of these and am getting some pretty ordinary finishes, closer look at the knives and they have seen better days. Quick search showed new knives available from CSK that measure 20mm in height, mine measure 17mm, the distance from the bottom of the blade 'slot' to the top measures 16mm. I can't find a manual or any reference to this machine, is there a proper way to work out the height of the blade ? Quote
Coop Posted December 31, 2024 Report Posted December 31, 2024 A Google search doesn’t show me anything on this machine. I would think with the slight difference in yours and the ones that you found, that it could be worked out in the adjustment of your outfeed table. I have been using this tool for several years with good results for sharpening jointer and planer knives. Not sure why I can’t copy and paste but it’s a sharpening jig from Deulen Tools. Quote
wtnhighlander Posted December 31, 2024 Report Posted December 31, 2024 As @Coop suggested, if the knives are simple edged stock, they should be adjustable within the head. Index holes in the blade would suggest they are meant to be replaced, rather than sharpened. It is likely that your old blades started out at 20mm, and have been reground to 17mm over time. Quote

I thought there may have been a nominal height that the blade should sit up more than the holder. as far as I know the knives are only 'simple edge stock', there are no indexing holes, the bottom of the knife sits on top of 2 springs. I attached a photo ( it was a bit hard to show both sides of the knife) 2 Quote
wtnhighlander Posted January 1 Report Posted January 1 I think the 20mm knives you found should work. Extending 4mm above the holder seems quite reasonable, and as mentioned earlier, the adjustment of the tables, relative to the cutter, is what really matters. 1 1 Quote

Excellent, thanks mate the above was what I wasn't sure of 1 Quote
Mark J Posted January 1 Report Posted January 1 I agree with wtnhighlander, and remember those new blades will get sharpened from time to time, so they won't be 20 mm forever. Quote
