NYHump
Hi All, Ok, this is my last atempt to find this door hinge. I know they make it because I found a "cheap" version of it at Lowes. The hinge is 1 1/2 x 1 1/4 solid brass "Swaged" meaning that when you close the hinge the inside of the hinge faces are flat, "no gap like a butt hinge. For an example, look at the hinge on your bedroom door, see that each side of the hinge has a bend in it. I have looked at every web site for hinges and even talked to many people to no avail! Please, before sending me out on a wild hinge chase make sure that it's the hinge I need. I already spent hours looking for this hinge online. I plan on cutting the mortice so the plate is flush with the wood so that's not a problem. My project is a jewely box with matching grain on the sides so I need the ends to close with no gap to show the grain match. Gezz, if I can find a cheap brass plated one at my local Lowes I should be able to find a solid brass nice one. Thanks for your help. Ps. I don't want to use a butt hinge and cut the mortice deeper to make it flush.

Renzo
Hi Where have you looked? Have you tried Lee Valley? They have an extensive hardware department.
Onboard
I did a search on “small box solid brass swaged hinges”. This seemed to narrow the field. The links below are about as close as I could get. Some of the suppliers will give the width of one hinge plate and others will give the width across both hinge plates. I didn't find the exact dimension you’ve given in my search. There are a lot of solid brass hinges out there, and most of them seem to be swaged, but some are and don’t use that term. These are all solid brass and extruded (not stamped). Some call it “drawn” instead of extruded. Also, some are “fixed hinge” which may be what you’re looking for. I also noticed that some hinge pairs don't come with screws. I did notice that one hinge (supposedly swaged) had a gap between the hinge plates (when closed) of about 1/55 of an inch. This was from their diagrams. So, the question is, would you find this acceptable? http://www.whitechapel-ltd.com/product/fpsch/211AR10P.html http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=9833 http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=19912 http://www.woodcraft.com/Family/2001010/2001010.aspx http://www.leevalley.com/US/hardware/page.aspx?p=40606&cat=3,41241,41249 You might find this of interest (or not). http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=18652
PaulMarcel
Onboard's suggestions might nail it for you. Otherwise, I agree with Renzo: get a copy of the Lee-Valley hardware catalog. They have a pretty impressive offering. Having the catalog to flip through is also nice. I use it a lot. That said, though, I recently went to my 'local' Rockler (which is actually pretty far); they had completely rearranged the store. They now have a whole aisle of nice hinges for big to tiny boxes. I had no idea they had such an offering mostly because I don't like flipping through web page after web page on their site (hence the printed LV catalog )

Rockler doesn't have it, I even went to the store and ran it buy their people and didn't have what I was looking for. I was even thinking about using a barral hinge or a soss hinge but I don't know if I want to do all that work. I will try taking a butt hinge and making a jig to see if I can put in the bend using my vise. Hey, it's worth a shot if I can get what I want. Thanks
cosmocyb
Try Hafele company. Here's their website, you can call them. they are really helpful. http://www.hafele.com/us/index.htm By the way, that is an odd size hinge.
PMR
I almost don't want to admit this because I don't normally, purposely do hack work. I once needed a pair of "Swaged" hinges quickly and bought butt hinges, put them in my bench vice, and clamped down till they bent enough to become "Swaged". I hope you get to read this post before it self destructs... Pat

BTW, I do need 30 pairs of hinges so I would rather "buy" then "bend" NYHump Ps. I don't thinks it's "hacking" when you can't find the proper hinge. It worked but only to a degree, if I were to do it again I would give myself the time to mortice the hinge. I did this on a wall clock glass door and there still is a gap of about an 1/8 inch. I really wanted to close that gap to as small as possible. Pat
went_postal
I guess I am confused... What about these: http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=19912&tagem=rv http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=19913 do not meet your requirement? You want hinges that get mortised into the wood but lay flat against eachother when closed... both of those look to fit the bill.

W_P These are "Butt" hinges. when you close them the inside faces are not flat they have a gap. I'll have to take some pics when I get a change to show the difference. Thanks anyway NYHump

Only other thing that I would suggest that is box sized would be the quadrant or L hinges used for humidors. But that would add a LOT of work. And not sure about your doors... but here at my house there is a slight gap at the barrel. I guess that is why I was confused a bit here.
