Is there anyone online that is really good at identifying wood.  I have an architect telling me the existing siding on a barn project is white oak but I am strongly questioning what he is telling me.

FWIW oak on barn walls would not be unusual but as others have said post some pics and someone here can probably identify it. White and red oak are typically fairly easy to identify.

You might try posting clear close-up photos in woodworking forums or groups, grain, end grain, and color help a lot. White oak has distinct rays and pores, so comparisons can confirm.
