mdd Posted March 6 Report Posted March 6 Is there anyone online that is really good at identifying wood. I have an architect telling me the existing siding on a barn project is white oak but I am strongly questioning what he is telling me. Quote
wtnhighlander Posted March 6 Report Posted March 6 Magnified end-grain photos are the best way to judge, but post whatever pictures you have. Several folks here are pretty good at species identification. Quote
pkinneb Posted March 6 Report Posted March 6 FWIW oak on barn walls would not be unusual but as others have said post some pics and someone here can probably identify it. White and red oak are typically fairly easy to identify. 1 Quote
Tom King Posted March 6 Report Posted March 6 We have White Oak on our barn and house for siding. 1 Quote
dwilliam Posted March 27 Report Posted March 27 You might try posting clear close-up photos in woodworking forums or groups, grain, end grain, and color help a lot. White oak has distinct rays and pores, so comparisons can confirm. 1 Quote
