AdamAronson
Subect says it all! I've finished the base parts: legs, stretchers & leg vise. Before I move on to the top should I assemble the base? Keeping in mind that I've got a very small shop and I would have to step over the base on the way in (as would my wife on the way to the laundry) maybe that's my answer? ;-D I am also not using bench bolts for this one - I've opted to draw bore the entire base together. Thoughts? Adam
konkers
I say wait till you get the top done before assembling the base. That's what I did.

allencrane
Absolutely agree - assemble the top before the base. If minor adjustments need to be made to the base, that can be done when you're still in dry fit mode. Once you have it perfect, assemble the base, then attach to the top. This is especially true if you are doing the permanent drawbore solution that you described (w/o the bolts), and particularly if you are doing deep mortises in the top for the legs.
