Violet Arrow
Hi i am new to the forum, so please be easy on me. I plan to make a grease pot as show on the woodwrights shop. My question is I plan to put mustache wax in it and I have concerns that the coconut oil and beeswax might go bad in the wood over time. Does anyone have experience with this? thanks
Miles11we
Beeswax wont go bad. Coconut oil can but still has a respectable shelf life. But, for the most part, the residual coconut oil going rancid in the wood, not a big deal for something you arent eating and just cleaning it out every year or so would be fine. Personally my wax/oil mixes use food safe mineral oil mostly if im worried about it.
wtnhighlander
Yep. What Miles said. And welcome to the forum, Arrow!
Violet Arrow
Thanks for the advice. my thought this morning is maybe I will finish the "pot" with 100% tung oil. This could act as a seal coat.(?) This way when I add the mustache wax to the pot it won't absorb into the wood as much
wdwerker
Make sure the interior is very smooth and let the tung oil cure before using it w the wax.
