Popular Post Andy Wright
I saw Eric's recent post about a project "plucked from the refuse" and it reminded me of a project I recently resurrected. This summer we were cleaning out a storage room in our barn and ran across a doll cradle that I made for my daughter when she was 4 years old. One of the rockers had broken off several years ago and it was stuffed into the barn where it gathered lots of dirt and grime. I didn't have a huge attachment to the project, and never really considered it to be that nice of a piece, so my inclination would have been to pitch it into the burn pile, but my daughter saw it and was very excited about it. She asked me if I could repair it for her. I spent a few hours in the shop making the repairs a few weeks ago and then cleaned it all up with mineral spirits and gave it a few coats of Old English furniture polish. The main wood is ash, with wenge, cherry, and copper wire used in the butterfly inlay The sharpie inscription on the bottom says "Merry Christmas 2004, Love Daddy". My daughter (who is now 16) was thrilled with the result, and it was kind of cool to see that it meant so much to her.

prov163
Something tells me that someday there will be a granddaughter using this for her dolls Great legacy piece for your daughter to tell her daughter about rocking dolls in it. Very cool Andy!
wtnhighlander
Sweet! Cool work on the inlay. I'm glad your daughter thought more of the piece than you did!
