Charger
Well hello again everyone, It's been about 2 weeks since I completed the "Chest of Drawers" for my daughter. I'm still waiting for her to drop off the stain so I can get the finish on it. So I started my next project. My wife and have been looking for a new bed for us. I had her look through the net and find the style that she liked. Well she picked out a Sleigh Bed. I looked around the net and found Wood Magazines plans and liked the way the foot board was smaller then the head board but my wife liked the way that FWW's bed looked but agreed that the (fb) would need to be smaller. So I decided to combine the two and make our bed. I asked around the chat room and the forum and finally had the article from FWW emailed to me. I milled up some Cherry that was pretty twisted and then glued it up. I made two templates out of plywood then traced them onto the Cherry and cut them out. I then glued up some Maple and Cherry boards together and those would be the lower part of the rails in the FB and HB. I ran those through the planer and then through the Dado blade to cut a 1/2" dado on both the upper and lower rails.Next I figured out the lay out for the mortises and Tenons and cut on the legs those. Next I dry fitted everything to make sure it all looked good and fit good. I have attached some pictures of the FB as it sets on my assembly table dry fitted. Have a great night and ""Keep Makin that Saw Dust"" Lance http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/6760/0922101217.jpg http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/8388/0922101215a.jpg http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/9333/0922101214.jpg

I really like the sleigh beds too. I had a hard time deciding what type of bed to build myself. Once the wife told me I could pick then it was all over

DannyBoy
Just becasue you built the bed doesn't mean you will be sleeping in it... "But honey...I built the bed, why do I have to sleep on the couch?"
Charger
3 Million Comedians out of work and you are trying to be one Danny. Thanks to the other nice guys for the compliments. Today I topped the top Maple rail with a piece of Cherry then rounded the edges. After that I glued and screwed it all together. It looks pretty good for a blind guy. Charger
""UPDATE"",,,,,,,,,,, Hello again Everyone, Well I have just completed the Head Board and 1 Side Rail for the Sleigh Bed. I have attached a few more Pictures of it assembled in my Kitchen. The rail on the left is ready for the Oil but has not got it yet. I was anxious to see what it looked like before I oiled it so I put it together. The Head board was built the same as the foot board just BIGGER. LOL I'll be oiling that second rail today with the first coat and I'm hoping to complete all the finish by next week. Next thing to build for it is the frame that will support the mattress. Let me know what you all think of it so far. PaulMarcel
So... Lance... I know it's pictures of a bed and all, but Image Shack says the pictures were removed because they were forbidden. Fess up, what was on the bed?!

Jim DaddyO
I caught some of this build on the chat on Lance's stream and if you think the pictures look good, you ought to see it there. It positively glows with the BLO. Very nice work! Jim

nateswoodworks
Looking good and by placing it in the kitchen you should be able to smell the bacon in the morning. Nate
Charger
Looking good and by placing it in the kitchen you should be able to smell the bacon in the morning. Nate Yes it makes it closer to the Bacon but it also makes it closer to the Kitchen Sink. I hate doing dishes.
Charger
Well Ladies & Gents, I have finally finished the Sleigh Bed and set it up in our bedroom. I had to repaint the room before my wife would let me set it up but it was worth the wait. Here are some pictures of it all set and ready to sleep on. Please give me feed back on this. Thanks Lance
