Freddie
If you're like me, you probably have a small shop with limited work surfaces. My work bench is small and usually cluttered, and I find myself most times using my table saw top as an extra work surface between cuts. This is a great secondary use, however, small pesky things can have a tendency to fall inside the throat plate of your saw, and cause a dangerous situation later on. Things like pencils, screws and other small hand tools could escape into the saw unnoticed and will remind you the next time you fire up the saw. A safe habit to practice to prevent this is to throw some blue tape over the throat plate openings while you use the saw as a work surface. It may seem silly, but it is a lot better than having something lodged in the saw when you power up. Be safe my friends.

RichardA
Good advise..... When I use my table saw as an assembly table [and that happens a lot] I toss a piece of clear plastic over the whole thing, assuring that any falling objects slide loudly to the floor!
Coop
Now just raise the blade up thru the tape and you've got a zero clearance insert That still doesn't explain the clean top
Freddie
That still doesn't explain the clean top Marc just posted an article about this. I vacuum in between photo shoots.

Byrdie
I tend to use my saw top a lot too as I don't have great work surfaces (small bench has my drill press and spindle sander on it). I bought a router pad to put on the top so that I don't scratch it (more).
davestanton
It is tempting to use the tablesaw as a bench....and I have done it heaps. Your advise is noted, thank you.

Freddie
My girlfriend would probably volunteer to sweep the shop for one day just to see what goes on in there and why the hell everything takes so long!

tim0625
My all time favorite bumper sticker was on an 18 wheeler...."If you can't stop, grin as you go under!"
