SeanWalker
I am building a 6x10 inch box out of 3/8 inch lumber and cannot figure out what size hinges to get. Do you guys have any tips on determining hinge size? Thanks!
Coop
Sean, Will this be a jewelry/decorative box?
ChetlovesMer
This is a tough question as style varies so much from person to person. Personally, I like big bold hardware. Others like delicate hardware. My suggestion is find a box you like of similar size and measure how big that hardware is.
SeanWalker
Yes it will be a decorative box. Chet: I'm not able to really find a box this size to look at the hardware unfortunately.
Scott Bailey
I have found so far that the people at places like Woodcraft or craft stores are very helpful with such things, you might take your stock with you to a store like that that sells hinge hardware and ask for a little guidance in person. if there's no woodcraft you might try craft stores like Michaels. couldn't hurt to do a little hunting/pecking with the stock in hand so you can see right there how it should look. i doubt you'd get much help at a big box store but you could try places like that as well. Coop
I have used these a few times. Rather pricey I admit. The item # 70391 does have a 95 deg. stop at least. This particular # will be good size wise for your size box. Rockler does have other less expensive in this same size. Good luck w/ your build. http://www.rockler.com/brusso-solid-brass-small-box-stop-hinges
TerryMcK
Also look at Brusso hinges. Again pricey but excellent quality

I'm never sure what they mean when they say the size of the hinge.
SeanWalker
Also look at Brusso hinges. Again pricey but excellent quality Oh yeah, they are really nice. My issue is I don't know what size to get. I guess I need to take it in to Woodcraft like stb is saying.
Tpt life
Scale the specs to the photo. 3/4 by 1/2 appears to be the dimension of the closed hinge making each "leaf" approx 3/4 by 1/2.
