mkirby
Ok dumb question of the week. I am going to finish my easel with Danish oil. So when applying the 1st coat i want to flood the surface and wait about 20mins to let it soak in and then wipe of the excess. My question is once i have applied to one side do i wait the 20 mins, wipe, flip and do the other side or do i just do it all in one go? Told you stupid question
Coop
Not a stupid question at all. You can do it all at the same time. As you are "flooding" keeping the surface wet, you're not allowing the oil to dry. I usually hold the piece with a cloth and use another to wipe it dry after the 20 min. Keeps most of the oil off of your hands and any potential finger prints off of the piece.
wtnhighlander
That works well if you are resting the piece on painter's pyramids or some such support. Don't try it if you hve the piece lying flat on the bench. Sorry for stating the somewhat obvious....

Sometimes, for obvious reasons, the obvious isn't always obvious!
mkirby
Thanks guys. I'm going to try a test board this afternoon. Hopefully it comes up as nice as the wipe down with white spirits did. I will let you know how i get on.
wouldwurker
Love me some Danish Oil. Wax on, wax off. Get a scratch or a nick, and a light sand and oil touch up makes it completely disappear. Can't wait to see the finished easel.
