woodbutcher74
I have never worked with veneer before and thought I would give it a shot. I had this Zebrawood veneer laying around that I picked up last year at Grizzly's tent sale. I still need to work on my photography as the pictures never turn out as well as I would like them to. It's red oak with walnut splines. The lid is oak with the Zebrawood veneer and maple inlay wrapped around. I finished it with MinWax Spray poly in matte.

wouldwurker
Looks great. I tried zebrawood once and it tore out big time. Maybe veneer is the key! Cool angles on the box.
Coop
I wouldn't have thought red oak and zebrawood, but they look great together.Good looking box!

woodbutcher74
Thanks guys. I thought I would pass along something I tried and it worked pretty well. Before I finished the box I used DS tape to hold the hinge in place while I predrilled the holes for the #1 1/4" screws. It held so well that I put some tape back on when I did the final assembly. When the tiny screws go through it helps hold them. I remember wdwerker mentioning adding a drop of glue on small screws and thought the tape would do the same job. Works pretty well.
wdwerker
I use the glue to harden the wood so those few threads don't strip out . Just pull the screw, add a drop of glue put the screw back in. Epoxy works to reinforce screw threads in hardware mounted to wood that will be subjected to strong stresses. Boatworks and Triple H taught me that one

This is yellow/white glue and not epoxy, right?
