Popular Post JosephThomas
Picked up some nice cherry boards off CL for a good price....stuff was advertised as 'old growth' which I can't verify obviously, but the stuff is nice, and the price was amazeballs. Just wanted to share a few quick photos for the people here like me that enjoy looking at lumber all day... There are 5 of those boards (14' long, 10-12" wide, most are 4/4 some are planed down to 3/4 already, and a handful of 8' and 5' boards... pretty much defect free, lots of beatiful straight grain. At least compared to the stuff they sell locally. All in all I paid a dirt cheap price compared to what new cherry costs, and this stuff looks way better than what I can buy at a yard, so yippee. For now my only plans are to use a board or so for panels for the bed frame I build next year. He tossed in some random pieces of oak too that you can see down to the right in some photos. Not as nice, but it was a throw in, maybe I can send it to Eric for his next rustic project.
Brendon_t
The baby let you out long enough to go play? Nice score, how do you plan on storing them?

Yeah this was basically my first 'hobby activity' since the birth...it was good to go do something that wasn't baby-related or work-related. As for storage I am still figuring it out....my back patio is covered well from the elements so it's there for now, but it's kind of in the way....in order to store them in the garage I might have to make some modifications to my rafter storage area, or shorten boards, neither of which I want to do...just hoping I figure it out before my wife loses patience with the back patio setup

wtnhighlander
Good find, JT! I'm jealous over those wide, straight boards.
Unknown craftsman
That's a nice score I'm gonna have to start watching Cl in my area. I really like Cherry I don't buy it very often because the quality is low and the price high. Hope you find a good place to store them. The guy went back and forth about keeping them, so I almost didn't get them. Luckily for me I think he just ran out of time and energy to move them while packing all his other stuff. Do you have a good lumber yard up there in fallbrook?

Do you have anywhere to add? I usually go to a place called "The Hardwood and Hardware Store" a.k.a. TH&H: http://www.th-h.com/ 8849 Complex Dr.San Diego, CA 92123 It's not far from Frost Hardwood, just on the other side of the Miramar base. I tend to go there more than frost because the prices are slightly better on a few things, and it's also a little smaller, which makes it seem like they cater better to the little guys like me. Thanks for the list of places, I've only been to Frost out of all those, will have to check out the others soon. Tropical Hardwoods in carlsbad has been on my todo list for a while. KenMasco
Thanks, I forgot to add TH&H to my list. I have been there a few times, I agree, they sometimes have great material at good prices. I haven't seen Cherry as nice as your score for over a year any where at any price.
