Dave S
Dave I'm curious about the wood movement. BTW, really nice box at the start of this thread, and I liked very much the sliding insert. Think I'm going to steal that idea. Anyhow, the long grain looks like it's all in the same direction. Even though the board is comprised of strips, why do you think the wood movement didn't tear apart your miter joints in the nice-looking frame? treeslayer
Not exactly sure @Dave S skill I guess if I had to guess maybe the small size of the blocks equals small movement over the span, thin frame around the board probably helped, its two narrow pieces, and probably just luck, it stays inside of course and that probably helps
Chip Sawdust
A friend of mine made a chess/checkers board last year and said it was really challenging. He made it for his son-in-law, and the daughter just divorced him, so my friend whines he'll never see it again. But it did look good. To hear him tell the story of its construction, these require a good bit of concentration and precision, so I'd say it was less luck and more skill.
