Popular Post Tom King
The extra strong wind we had with that weather system rolled 2 to 3 foot waves into our cove for two days. They scoured the bottom in the swimming area, and rolled up a lot of vegetation debris onto the beach. It's never looked this clean that I can remember. There is still some very small stuff that we can flush out with a jetski next Spring, but I never expected to be able to get it to look like this. This cove was completely choked with weeds when we first started working on it. I can see the bottom much better with polarized sunglasses than I can capture with the phone camera. Before and after of the stuff the waves washed up. This was the second bucket load. After I got it like this, I went back down there with the mower and threw all that small stuff further up the hill, but I didn't think to take any more pictures.
wtnhighlander
That's pretty clear water for a 'Southern' lake, especially after such a storm. Lakes in my area are always tinted with leaf tannin, even when things have been calm enough for sediment to settle out. Really nice spot! Tom King
I forget the rating scale for fresh water, but it has the highest rating available. There is nothing dumped in it upstream from industry, or towns that I know of. I'm sure I've drunk plenty of it when I used to do so much water skiing when I was a teenager, falling thousands of times on a slalom course, and trick skiing. Water Willow did not exist here when I was younger, but is a protected weed now. It really does do a lot of filtering out muck. It's all along the shoreline coming in to the cove. That's the weed you see on the other side of the dock in this picture. The beach is in the end of the cove nearest in this picture, but you can't see it for the Azaleas. I need to trim them down some.
Tom King
In this picture, the water is muddy because I had the kids across the cove blow the muck off the bottom with their jetskiis in anticipation of these folks taxing their Amphibian out of the water. He wasn't sure it was going to be hard enough, so he just let the gear down in the water to hold it in place. Now that he's seen the bottom really is hard enough, he'll taxi it out when they come back. That's the muck the waves rolled out. I think it was what was leftover from whatever killed the remnants of the weeds we took out.
Mark J
That reminds me, I was going to suggest in your other post that your VRBO listing might mention that amphibious aircraft are allowed. That's a niche market you might tap.
Tom King
I have a picture of it coming in the cove on there. Also, another place shows plenty of room to land helicopters.
