pkinneb
I need to cut a 1 1/2" long section of this 1" square aluminum bar. How would you cut it to insure you get a nice square cut? Thanks for your help in advance!
Gary Beasley
A woodcutting chopsaw is supposed to be able to cut aluminum easily. I would hold it in place with a clamp for the cut.
Coop
I posed the question to my brother who has worked with aluminum for years, fab and welding. He said with a fine tooth blade on the ts, with the blade turning, coat it with bar soap and run the piece of aluminum thru slowly.
Tom King
I have a miter saw I bought off of CL set up to cut aluminum, with a 12" aluminum cutting blade on it. Cutting aluminum is pretty easy, but it makes a Big mess with all the aluminum shavings. They're hard to clean up. Cutting that small of a piece, put a board under it to fully support it over any softer plastic insert on a miter saw. I do aluminum cutting outside, and one day I sent such a small piece flying about 75 feet after the insert flexed and the blade grabbed it. I felt lucky it didn't hit flesh. If you have time in the project, send it to me and I'll cut it for you and send the piece back. I work with aluminum fairly often.
Immortan D
If your bandsaw has a low speed setting, you can make the cut with it. You'll need a metal cutting blade.
