Popular Post wtnhighlander Posted May 31 Author Popular Post Report Posted May 31 Got the tempered hardboard panels cut and glued in this morning. Nothing fancy, just face-glued to the frame stock. This paulownia frame actually weighs less than the hardboard panels do. 4 Quote
Popular Post wtnhighlander Posted June 1 Author Popular Post Report Posted June 1 Only had time to de-clampify, clean up some squeeze-out, and adjust the door to fit. It is ready to hang, once I decide on paint, finish, or àu-naturale. Thanks for following along, and I hope this proves useful to someone else in need of 'utility grade' storage space. 4 Quote

Thanks for sharing. On my "someday list" is to build these for a section of my shop where I currently have wire shelving. 1 Quote

wtnhighlander Posted June 1 Author Report Posted June 1 @Tpt life, I've always heard that product refered to as 'tempered' when it has at least one slick side. I don't know if that is at all correct, but it is common usage in my part of the country. 1 Quote
wtnhighlander Posted June 1 Author Report Posted June 1 @Von, these simple boxes really help with dust management, if nothing else. It would be difficult to build a storage cabinet for any less expense. However, the door function can certainly be improved with the addition of barrister bookcase hardware. The sliding pin works, but is easy to rack and jam. Mounted above chest high, I harldy ever need to slid the door back, I just swing it up and grab what I need, then let it close. FYI, my 'knobs' are just hardwood blicjs and a screw. Might get some round knobs soon, since the sharp corners can be knuckle-busters. 1 1 Quote
Popular Post wtnhighlander Posted June 3 Author Popular Post Report Posted June 3 One final detail - I use little blocks of scrap, crudely sawen to a slight taper, as a door pull. Held by the only screw in the assembly. Now to hang this thing and hide some junk! 3 Quote

In my neck of the woods we have available to us, hardboard and temper hardboard. The tempered stuff like Ross used is quite a bit darker in color then the hardboard and the price is higher. Ross are you using rare earth magnets or anything else to keep the doors closed or just counting on gravity? 1 Quote
wtnhighlander Posted June 4 Author Report Posted June 4 Just gravity and friction, @Chet. I thought about cutting a small 'biscuit' slot in the bottom frame rail, and converting the pull into a turn-button latch, but so far it hasn't been necessary. Quote
