New ivory is illeagal for trade in north america. There are sources for fossilized ivory or reclaimed ivory. Bring lots of money with you. If you need small bits, try to find a place tha restores pianos, the keys on some of the old ones were ivory, again....bring lots of money. I make nuts for guitars and use corian (the counter top material) you may find it an acceptable substitute.

Ivory is a protected material. So unless you have some in the family, you will most likely be dealing with imitations or acceptable substitutions. Ivory, and it's modern substitutes, is reportedly very brittle. Not having worked with any myself, I cannot verify this.
