TheSpoonman
hey all - i'm wondering if you think it would create a problem if an end grain cutting board that has been finished with a salad bowl varnish were to be oiled later on with mineral oil. if the board were sanded down at a later date and given a new coat or two of varnish, would the mineral oil in the wood create problems with the new varnish curing and becoming "food safe"? any help/expertise would be appreciated. many thanks... areynoldsre
I am no expert but I only use the mineral oil on my cutting boards. Ever.
davestanton
Vegetable oil is the only oil I use on timber cutting boards. I would sand any finish off the surfaces that will come in contact with food and then give a few coats of vegetable, canola or sunflower oil. Let it dry and away you go.
