cts1085
I am trying to think ahead on the leg laminations (Great video Marc!) and I was wondering the following: I have a bunch of ~24" 8/4 cut-offs from the top laminations. Can I laminate these and overlap them to make the legs at ~32"? Something where the seams do not line-up of course. Thoughts?
thewoodwhisperer
Structurally I think you'll be fine. But you'll have that cross-grain joint staring you in the face. So if you don't mind looking at that, I think you would be ok.
Beechwood Chip
For extra credit, you could scarf joint or box joint the cross grain joints. It would make them stonger, and look cool.
RenaissanceWW
Great idea chip, now I have visions of a workbench cross with elaborate segmented turning forms. Tom, you might think about using the laminations to your advantage and breaking up the center lam in such a way that you create a through mortise. Then you could wedge it or some thing for fun with a contrating wood. Overkill certainly, but what is a workbench but an excuse to try out some new techniques. cts1085
Sounds like some great ideas! - Maybe an in-line dovetail joint to match the joint on the front??? Sounds like I will have 4 opportunities to try different joints! Thank you all!
