Chris Adkins
Here is a marking gauge that I recently made. I couldn't find one on the market that was exactly like I wanted so I decided to make my own. The wood is Wenge with stainless steel inlay and blade. The fence is just over 7" so it has lots of surface to register.

Scott Seganti
Nice job Chris. What did you use to cut the stainless steel down to size?
Chris Adkins
Hacksaw my friend! :-) Once it was rough cut I was ground and sanded it smooth.
Ironman50
Way better! It is inspirational.
CessnaPilotBarry
A local guy regrinds Bosch jigsaw blades to use as marking gauge blades. I tried one, and was very surprised at the quality and durability of the edge.
Chris Adkins
I will have to try the jigsaw blades. I am making a few more if these and considering selling a few but want to make the blade as friendly as possible. Using the stainless stock worked great but not easy to sharpen and I don't feel will be my final design.
tdale51@yahoo.com
How is the blade lock screw threaded into the end of the beam? Did you epoxy a nut in the end, threaded insert, or did you tap threads into the wood?
displacedhillbilly
That is classy! I really like the wenge & steel look.
Chris Adkins
The tumb screw on the top has a threaded insert. For the screw in the beam I tapped the wood, I ill probably modify this on the next one to include another insert just to protect wear. Thanks for the comments! Indigogyre
Chris, Excellent work and I love the contrast. I'm working on a marking gauge myself and you gave me some nice ideas. Dean

TRBaker
DANG!!!! I wish I had time to do stuff like that. Great job. How much are you planning on selling them for?
ChetlovesMer
Very nicely done. 7" huh? I don't know if I've seen a marking guage that sized. Looks awesome.
Chris Adkins
Thanks again for all of the comments. TRBaker not sure, I picked up some more parts to make a few more. I will let you know though once I decide. I am trying to find thinner stainless stock. The stock I have works great for this size but is a little heavy for a smaller gauge.
