secutanudu
So I wanted to make an easy-to-construct end grain board. I decided to use a 7" wide peice of maple in it's full width to make less cuts. When I exposed the end grain, this is what I found. I haven't decided yet if I love it or hate it, but it's definitely one or the other! Thoughts? Is it just maple starting to spalt?
Dave F
Well...... If Rorschach ever needed a cutting board, here it is.

Gary
I love it. It's the unexpected beauty and randomness of the wood that really adds to the appeal of woodworking for me. This is a great example of just that. The pattern is reminiscent of fractal art to me.

Byrdie
To answer one of the questions, this is beyond "starting" to spalt. Personally, I think it's beautiful and don't care if it's a cutting board or if you end up saving it to use in a box or something else. Showed the pics to a coworker and he had the same opinion. sethhoover
Hey if nothing else you wont have to worry about stains as much, like when my wife cuts strawberries and leaves them on the cutting board!
Ironman50
I like the interesting pattern it has, adds some character to the wood which makes it beautiful. Important is that it will be put in good use. www.sawblade.com
